A few days ago Raven posted lyrical poetry titled Beneath an Empty Sky. This is the improvised “radio edit” of the song.

The harmonies are based around a D-rooted dorian-mode; some augmented and diminished seventh chords make the tonality a little more interesting; and there is a surprise cadence at the end.

Listening to NIN at full volume in the library - and nobody else can hear a thing!! (unless I’m singing without realising it, of course). I’ve checked the rules: no mobile phones, no smoking and no eating, but it doesn’t say anything about dancing……

“Call the Ships to Port” by Covenant went a bit silly in my head.  Now it’s “Call the Cowboys Home”.  The rules:

• no music
• no practice
• figured out by ear as I went along
• one take for each track (no going back and fixing mistakes)
• instrumentation: one guitar, my voice (beats are done by knocking the body of the guitar)
