Had you asked me at the start of the year which style of image I would shoot the most in the course of the year, I would not have thought portraiture. Far from it. I normally shoot buildings, bands, landscapes and wildlife. But 2010 was to become the year to improve at portraiture and "modelled" photography. From a journalistic day attached to the Green Party's campaigning in Manchester to street photography, this was the year of the face.
Excluding a very short spell of promotional photography at university for a dramatic production, this is the first time I have had someone stand in front of the camera with the specific aim of them being the subject of the picture. I'd not directed a model, and suddenly I had two. Practice, practice, practice!
This is just a fragment of the bedlam that is my Christmas Eve. Unfortunately I'm sick of the twenty-something family member celebration, and shalln't be attending it again.
This is a portrait of my sister, Anita, taken with a slightly soft 1960s lens adapted for use on a modern DSLR. I'm pleased with the "look" that came out.
