Major Power Failure at IFL (update 3)

faelix:

Dear customers,

Following on from yesterday’s power disaster, Faelix has some maintenance work which needs to be carried out tonight which will involve disruption to services (i.e. websites will be down) for a few minutes. The reason for this is simple: at 7am yesterday the technical director had a choice between getting Faelix’s rack plugged into a temporary mains feed, or waiting till replacement parts arrived to fix the usual supply. Given it was another three hours until the switch-gear was repaired and normal supply was restored, we believe this was the right call.

Unfortunately that means our rack in IFL is on the wrong mains supply. This morning a new managed PDU arrived, along with replacement parts for the components which failed in a core router and one of our servers. Tonight we now need to power-down equipment to plug it into this new PDU. Even our dual- and triple-PSU servers need to be switched off and completely disconnected from one supply before connection to the other because our temporary supply is from a different mains feed.

Faelix aims to carry this work out starting at midnight local time (00:00 BST, 23:00 GMT).
